Soler Slugs Game Winning Pinch-Hit Homer

Jorge Soler‘s pinch-hit two-run home run in the seventh inning lifted the Miami Marlins to a 4-3 win over the San Francisco Giants on Monday night.

The Marlins have won five of their last six games, while the Giants have lost three of their last four.

With two outs and a runner on first base, Soler came up to pinch-hit for Garrett Hampson. Soler hit a 1-1 pitch from Logan Webb (0-2) over the wall in center field to give the Marlins the lead.

Jesus Sanchez and Jazz Chisholm each collected two hits in the win. This was an especially big development for Sanchez, as he entered the game with a batting average under .100. Chisholm also added a steal, his fourth of the young season.

Jesus Luzardo allowed three runs on six hits in 4.1 innings for the Marlins. Luzardo, who has been Miami’s ace thus far in 2023 struggled a bit. The young lefty was able to work out of multiple jams, but his pitch count got out of control early. A.J. Puk pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his second save of the season.

The Marlins and Giants will play the second game of their three-game series on Tuesday night.
