    Sandy Hurls Complete Game Shutout

The Miami Marlins beat the Minnesota Twins 1-0 on April 4, 2023, behind a complete-game shutout from Sandy Alcantara. Alcantara allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out five. The Marlins’ lone run came in the bottom of the third inning on a solo home run by Avisail Garcia. The Twins had a chance to tie the game in the ninth inning, but they were unable to get a runner past second base.

Alcantara was dominant from the start, retiring the first 10 batters he faced. He allowed his first hit in the fourth inning, a single to Jorge Polanco, but he retired the next two batters to end the inning. Alcantara allowed another hit in the sixth inning, but he again retired the next two batters to keep the Twins off the scoreboard.

The Marlins took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on Sanchez’s home run off Twins starter Kenta Maeda. Sanchez drove a 2-2 fastball over the wall in left field for his first home run of the season.

The Twins had a chance to tie the game in the ninth inning against Alcantara. Max Kepler led off the inning with a single, and Gio Urshela followed with a walk to put runners on first and second with no outs. However, Floro struck out the next two batters before getting Trevor Larnach to ground out to second base to end the game.

Alcantara (1-0) picked up the win, while Maeda (0-1) took the loss.
