    Marlins Shut Astros Out

The Miami Marlins shut the Houston Astros out 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon in Jupiter.

Avisail Garcia was the lone provider of offense in the win, with his second home run of the spring. Garcia is hoping for a bounce back season after a disappointing 2021 campaign, and is off to a solid start in the Grapefruit League.

Miami had seven hits total in the win, with most of those going for singles. The only extra base hit besides the aforementioned Garcia blast, was courtesy of a double from C.J. Hinojosa. The Marlins were 0-7 with runners in scoring position, and blew several chances to add on to the slim lead.

Garrett Hampson and Joey Wendle each swiped a bag in the win, as Miami continues to be one of the more aggressive clubs in Major League Baseball. Those were the first steals of the spring for both Hampson and Wendle. Jon Berti was caught stealing for the first time this spring.

Daniel Castano was marvelous on the mound for 3.2 innings. Castano struck out five, walked two, allowed two hits and surrendered no runs. Miami’s bullpen combined for 5.1 scoreless innings, and allowed only one hit. Matt Barnes was credited with the victory in this one.

The Marlins will try and make it two in a row when they host the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. Eury Perez will make his first start of the spring for Miami.
