The Miami Marlins defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 on Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park, thanks to a walk-off RBI single by Bryan De La Cruz in the 10th inning.
The Marlins (3-2) trailed 2-1 entering the bottom of the 10th inning. With one out, Jorge Soler was intentionally walked to bring up De La Cruz. De La Cruz then singled to left field, scoring Nick Fortes, who had pinch-run for Soler, to give the Marlins the win.
Edward Cabrera (1-0) pitched a scoreless 10th inning to earn the win. Craig Kimbrel (0-2) took the loss for the Phillies.
Zach Wheeler and Cabrera each pitched six innings for their respective teams. Wheeler allowed one run on five hits and struck out six. Cabrera allowed two runs on five hits and struck out five.
The Marlins took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a solo home run by Soler. The Phillies tied the game in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Kyle Schwarber.
The Phillies took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Alec Bohm.
The Marlins had a chance to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, but they left the bases loaded.
The game remained tied at 2-2 until the bottom of the 10th inning, when De La Cruz delivered the walk-off hit.
The Marlins won their second straight game and improved to 3-2 on the season. The Phillies lost their second straight game and fell to 2-3.
The Marlins and Phillies will play the rubber match of their three-game series on Thursday night at loanDepot park.
