    Marlins Fall to Mets in Queens

    The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 9-3 on April 7, 2023. The Mets scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Pete Alonso hit a two-run home run in the first, and Brandon Nimmo added a solo shot in the third. The Mets added five more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run double by Francisco Lindor. The Marlins scored two runs in the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Mets’ early lead.

    The Mets’ pitching staff was dominant, holding the Marlins to just three runs on six hits. Tylor Megill pitched six innings, allowing one run on three hits. He struck out seven and walked one.

    The Mets improved to 2-1 on the season, while the Marlins fell to 1-2. The Mets will look to continue their winning ways when they take on the Marlins again on April 8.

    The Mets’ offense was led by Pete Alonso, who hit two home runs and drove in four runs. Brandon Nimmo and Francisco Lindor also homered for the Mets. The Marlins’ offense was led by Jorge Soler, who had two hits and two RBIs. Jesus Sanchez and Avisaíl García also had two hits for the Marlins.

    The Mets’ pitching staff was dominant, holding the Marlins to just three runs on six hits. Tylor Megill pitched six innings, allowing one run on three hits. He struck out seven and walked one. Edwin Diaz pitched a perfect ninth inning for his first save of the season.

    The Marlins’ pitching staff was not as effective, allowing the Mets to score nine runs on 11 hits. Edward Cabrera allowed five runs on six hits in five innings. Anthony Bass allowed two runs in one inning. Dylan Floro allowed one run in one inning.
