    Marlins Fall To 0-2

The Marlins fell to 0-2 in the Grapefruit League on Sunday, with a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Cardinals came away 8-2 winners, in a game that Miami was never competitively in. The Cards jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. All of that damage came against Johnny Cueto in his Miami debut.

Following Cueto’s lackluster effort, Eury Perez entered and looked decent. The top prospect allowed a run on four hits in two innings of work. Perez hit 100mph on the radar gun and dazzled with his 91mph changeup mixed in. The 19-year old could find himself in Miami at some point this season, but is expected to open in AA.

Jazz Chisholm appeared to possibly misplay a ball in the first inning, during his first action in center field. Chisholm after the game however stated that he purposely moved back on the ball, in an attempt to deke the baserunner. It will be interesting to keep an eye on Chisholm the rest of the way and see how he plays similar fly balls.

Peyton Burdick stood out with a 2-2 day at the plate, and was easily the most productive member of Miami’s lineup in the loss. The Marlins had six hits total in the game and committed two errors in the field. One of those miscues was charged to Burdick, with a throwing error.

Miami will continue the spring schedule on Monday in West Palm Beach. Jesus Luzardo will make the start for the Marlins, when they take on the Houston Astros at 1:05 PM.
