    Cabrera Wild in Loss to Mets

    The New York Mets improved their 2023 season with a 6-2 win over the Miami Marlins on April 1st at loanDepot Park. Tylor Megill started for the Mets and allowed two runs on four hits in five innings. He struck out five and walked one. Edward Cabrera started for the Marlins and allowed three runs on six hits in five innings. He struck out six and walked two.

    The Mets jumped out to an early lead in the second inning. With one out, Mark Canha doubled to left field. He then advanced to third on a groundout by Francisco Lindor. Jeff McNeil then hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Canha.

    The Marlins tied the game in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Jorge Soler walked and advanced to second on a single by Jesus Sanchez. Avisaíl García then hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Soler.

    The Mets took the lead for good in the fourth inning. With one out, Canha walked. He then advanced to second on a single by Starling Marte. Pete Alonso then hit a two-run double to left field, scoring Canha and Marte.

    The Mets added an insurance run in the seventh inning. With one out, Canha singled to left field. He then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Alonso then hit a single to right field, scoring Canha.

    The Mets improve to 2-1 on the season. The Marlins fall to 1-2.

    Alonso was the star of the game for the Mets, going 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs. McNeil also had a big game, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Megill was solid on the mound for the Mets, allowing two runs in five innings. He was able to work out of some trouble, including a bases-loaded jam in the third inning.

    The Marlins were led by Sanchez, who went 2-for-4 with a home run. Chisholm Jr. also had two hits for the Marlins. Cabrera was not as sharp as Megill, allowing three runs in five innings. He struggled with his command, walking four batters.

    The Mets will look to keep the momentum going as they take on the Marlins again on Sunday afternoon. The Marlins will try to bounce back and get their second win of the season.
